Hospital staff has played a central role in the control of the COVID-19 outbreak. All within their scope of practice, they were confronted with the risks, emotions and stress. Their experience provides us with important insights into the challenges and successes of the first months of a global pandemic.

BEHIND MASKS is a tribute to their dedication, their tenacity, care and drive. To acknowledge their great job and also their fears and exhaustion.

The pictures don't tell the story of one person, they tell the story of Dr. Sulaiman Al Habib Hospital Dubai as a whole. We hope that all workers of our hospital can relate to this. Not only the frontline workers but also support staff who made it possible for the frontline workers to do their job.

With this project we follow previous storytellers' efforts to document such episodes in history. We wanted to create an opportunity for reflection, alone or together, while looking at OUR story. -Marlies Klok, Nurse Educator-
